FOUR KIA RIO HATCHBACK OCCUPANTS PERISH ON THE R59 FREEWAY – IN THE KLIPRIVIER AREA
On Sunday 04 August 2024 at 06:44, on the R59 freeway direction north between R550 on ramp and Kliprivier off-ramp, four (4) male occupants, travelling in a grey/charcoal KIA RIO hatchback, died after their vehicle lost control, rolled while ejecting them and landed, on an embankment.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Overload Control Unit Officers, responded and Paramedics found on the scene, did all they could, to resuscitate the foursome, who are between the ages of 26 and 28, to no avail. They were all certified dead, on site.
It is not clear at this stage what actually occurred before the crash but, preliminary investigations reveals that fatigue, might have played a role, since there are no signs of skeedmarks, before the 5-doors left or veered off the roadway. Independent witnesses, allege that the deceased quartette, was from an evening church service in Vereeniging, to Phumula Park next to Leondale.
The wrecked KIA, was taken to the nearest EMPD pound, for further investigations. The EMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit, also attended the scene and a case of culpable homicide, was registered at the Kliprivier police station.
