LIVESTOCK ROAMING AROUND PUBLIC ROADS – IN EKURHULENI AREA

EKURHULENI_ The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) would like to urge motorists to always be vigilant when coming across livestock, such as a herd of cows, sheep, and goats.

Such animals are not allowed in residential areas, if there’s anyone who knows of a place that is strictly zoned for residential purposes and there is livestock, such acts should be reported immediately.

When driving towards various livestock, motorists should leave a safe following distance so that they give the right of way for the animal to pass. Once at a stop, motorists should put on their hazard/emergency lights to alert other motorists behind them, so that they can also slow down.

Other roads have road signs that indicate that there are animals that cross that road, so also be vigilant for those kinds of road signs.

When coming across such animals and you feel that you or others are in danger, do not hesitate to call the SPCA or the EMPD.
