One Arrested, Hijacked VW Golf Recovered
One arrest was made and a reported hijacked vehicle was recovered in Thembisa on 16 January by the EMPD.
Acting Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said officers were approached by a motor vehicle tracking company who were in pursuit of a hijacked white VW Golf 5, taken at gun point by four men in a Kia Picanto.
The hijacked Golf was found parked inside the Ivory Park 2 taxi rank. As officers were arranging for the recovered vehicle to be towed away a white Kia Picanto, with four male occupants, fitting the description of the vehicle allegedly used in the hijacking slowly drove passed the scene and officers gave chase.
“The driver lost control and drove into a lamppost in Rabie Ridge on Jay Crescent. The occupants fled on foot.
Officers caught a 25-year-old suspect and arrested him. The hunt is on for the trio who left their accomplice behind,” says Mokheseng.
The suspect faces charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and failing to stop when instructed by officers in uniform. Both confiscated motor vehicles (Picanto and Golf) were impounded.
