One Fatality Recorded Over Easter Weekend
Over the Easter long weekend, -9 – 13 April, operations paired with enforcement on COVID-19 lockdown regulations were conducted in the City of Ekurhuleni.
Twenty (20) roving and static roadblocks were set up across the City. A total of 2001 motor vehicles were stopped 880 traffic fines issued for moving violations, defects and documentation (not in possession of, or failing to carry driver’s license/professional drivers permit). Eleven (11) motorists were arrested for driving while intoxicated and seven (7) unroadworthy motor vehicles were discontinued from operating on the public road.
Unfortunately, one (1) fatal crash/accident took place on Sunday, 12 April, at 19h38, in Alberton area where a male passenger died after the Toyota light delivery vehicle he was travelling in lost control on JG Strijdom Road and rolled. A case of culpable homicide has been registered at the Brackendowns police station to determine the cause and for further investigation.
All the arrestees are to appear in court soon.
