Suspected Stolen Copper Cable Recovered In Daveyton
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested a man suspected of cable theft in Daveyton over the weekend.
EMPD Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said on 27 February officers received a tip-off about three suspects spotted nearby digging a trench, between houses and open veldt.
Mokheseng said the officers responded promptly and the three suspects fled on foot when noticing the officers closing in on them. One of the suspect were apprehended while the other two are still at large.
The 27-year-old alleged thief was caught with a 10ℓ empty bucket, a hacksaw, two shovels, a pick and the 1.2m of damaged electrical copper cable, valued at R1 200.
The suspect facing charges of theft and tampering with essential services infrastructure was detained at Daveyton Police Station. He will appear in court soon.
