CITY CONDEMNS VANDALISM AT MOOIFONTEIN CEMETERY
The City of Ekurhuleni condemns in the strongest terms the inhuman acts of vandalism that took place at Mooifontein cemetery near Thembisa during the previous week. There are over 40 tombstones that have been badly vandalized at the facility of late. “This is quite sad and we appeal to members of the public to respect our cemeteries and allow those who have parted to rest in eternal peace,” says metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini.
Residents who have their departed loved ones buried at Mooifontein cemetery between 2016 and 2019 on the Birch Acres side are advised to visit the gravesite to check the state of their tombstones.
The city wishes to remind residents that cemeteries are a sacred place and therefore must be respected at all times. “We do not know who is behind this but we will look at tightening security there, “ concludes Dlamini.
