CITY OF EKURHULENI COMMEMORATES ARBOR MONTH WITH PLANTING OF 23 000 TREES

The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environmental Resources and Waste Management Services, Cllr Leshaka Manamela, led the city’s commemoration of the Arbor Month by planting five (5) trees in Dukathole, Germiston today, 9 September 2025. The city will plant a total of 23 000 trees across the region to commemorate Arbor Month and save the environment.

Altogether, 1 million trees will be planted nationwide, and members of the public are invited to join in saving the environment by planting trees.

Trees do not only beautify the landscape or purify the atmospheric air, but they also prevent soil erosion among many other ecosystem benefits. Every single planted tree goes a long way in conserving the environment and reducing the effect of soil erosion which may be aggravated by the approaching rainy season.

Community groups or individuals interested in planting trees in their environments, can contact their ward councillors for assistance in getting trees at no cost.
