Petrol Spillage contained at the Rietvlei Stream

Petrol spillage into the Rietvlei stream has been contained, following an accident on the R25 near Kempton Park involving a petrol tanker which crashed and caught fire last on Friday night, 1 November 2024.

The driver of the petrol tanker is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and collided with the bridge, spilling its contents.  The company owning the truck has since appointed spill technicians to contain and clean the Rietvlei stream.

The City’s Disaster and Emergency Services and the Environmental Resources Management Department are monitoring the situation to oversee the complete drainage of the contaminants from the stream.
