RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY AT GELUKSDAL AND OLD BOKSBURG CEMETERIES

The City of Ekurhuleni is doing renovations at the Geluksdal cemetery near Brakpan. A fencing project is nearing completion, with 1152 metres of concrete palisade fence now fully erected, layered with ripper razor mesh and flat razor wire with a locking steel gate.

The renovations, which are part of the city’s manager’s Fixing the Frontline programme, are to keep the facility safe from vandalism and other forms of crime whilst restoring it to a sacred resting place.

The project created temporary job opportunities for the locals through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and boosted local SMMEs.

Meanwhile, the Old Boksburg cemetery is also seeing serious refurbishment work such as the renovation of the administration office, repairing ablution facilities and restoration of water and electricity supply in the facility.

Expected completion date at the Boksburg cemetery is end of November 2026.

Members of the community are urged to take care of these facilities and report any act of vandalism to the authorities.
