CITY OF EKURHULENI AND ESKOM MEET OVER DEBT ISSUE

This morning (Thursday, 20 February 2025), the City of Ekurhuleni and Eskom met to resolve the outstanding debt of the former.

The meeting, which was convened by the MMC for Finance and acting Executive Mayor Ald Jongizizwe Dlabathi – who led the Ekurhuleni team, flows from a recent statement issued by Eskom threatening a possible interruption or disconnection of electricity at bulk points in Ekurhuleni due to an outstanding debt which was published in the media at the weekend. The Eskom team was led by the Gauteng General Manager Bandile Jack.

The parties agreed on cementing ongoing engagement and dispute resolution efforts in order to avoid public spats but rather address matters amicably as and when they arise.

As previously mentioned, our ongoing dialogue with Eskom is focused on ensuring that we maintain power supply in the region. The city remains committed to continuing to service our current account with Eskom, and there will be no disconnections.
