City Salutes Nurses on World Nurses’ Day
The role of nurses is to safeguard the wellbeing of society and are often the first point of contact during an outbreak or any health scare.
Today, the City of Ekurhuleni joins the world in celebrating Nurses Day under the theme: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare.
International Nurses’ Day is celebrated every year across the world on 12 May. This is a day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, and marks nurse’s contributions towards healthcare.
Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Services Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi said Nurses’ Day is about reflecting on the profession, honouring the selfless dedication and professionalism that nurses show when attending to patients in the City.
“The global pandemic has really shown us how essential nurses are. We should not only celebrate nurses today, but every day because they attend to patients on a daily bases.
“To all nurses in our health care facilities, thank you for putting your lives at risk in order to save ours. The City of Ekurhuleni salutes all the nurses who are serving residents of the City with pride and dignity,” she said.
