CITY VACCINATES OVER HALF A MILLION FOR MEASLES

GERMISTON – The City has managed to vaccinate 526 000 youngsters for measles since the beginning of the year.

The vaccination campaign was introduced because of the threat of measles to young people in the province. The programme, which continues to this day, is targeting young people between six months and 15 years.

“Our target is a million youngsters and we had hoped to make it by the end of March. Although we could not make it, we are satisfied about the progress made and we will continue until we reach the million,” says an optimistic Ekurhuleni spokesman Zweli Dlamini.

Measles is a very contagious respiratory infection that causes a total body skin rash and flu like symptoms.

Parents are encouraged to sign consent forms to give permission for health care workers to administer the vaccines to legible school going children, as the city works towards achieving the set target of one million mark on vaccinations.

The measles vaccination drive will run until further notice.
