Clinics Offer TB Treatment and Adherence Counselling
In observing the World Tuberculosis (TB) Day themed The Clock Is Ticking, the City’s health practitioners advise TB patients to take precautions and continue their treatment as prescribed.
This follows a concern by health givers that the TB treatment success rate for the 2020/21 is below the 90% national target.
“The high rate of drug abuse in communities has been noted as one of the key factors that affects the treatment adherence and TB outcomes of patients,” said the MMC for Health and Social Services Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi.
The MMC stated that all health facilities in the City of Ekurhuleni offer TB services and treatment adherence counselling.
“This service, along with a team of social workers are there to lend a helping hand towards the road to health,” she said.
World Tuberculosis Day, observed on 24 March each year, is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease.
