MEASLES CAMPAIGN SPREADS TO SECLUDED AREAS
The City of Ekurhuleni’s measles campaign is gaining momentum with almost 300 000 children already vaccinated.
The outreach program is now moving with speed to secluded areas as the City pursues the one million target. The City will be relying on its mobile clinics to reach as many children in the far-flung areas in an effort to curb the spread of measles in the region.
The campaign started early last month and the deadline has now been extended to 31 March 2023.
Measles is a very contagious respiratory infection that causes a total body skin rash and flu-like symptoms. Parents are encouraged to sign consent forms to give permission for healthcare workers to administer the vaccines to legible school going children.
“The City would like to thank all parents who have co-operated with our health officials thus far, and we appeal to many others to follow suit as we attempt to protect our little ones,” emphasises metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini.
