MMC Leads in Protecting Ekurhuleni Pupils
In observing this year’s Child Protection Week, Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Health and Social Services Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi led the way in adhering to the’ theme: Let us protect children during covid-19 and beyond.
This was evident at Thembelihle Primary School in Etwatwa and Isaac Makau Primary School in Wattville when the MMC handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shoes, and clothing to identified pupils of the schools on Friday, 4 June 21.
The hand over was a collaboration between the City of Ekurhuleni and the Save the Children SA.
Addressing the city’s future leaders, MMC Nkosi highlighted the importance of learners respecting and protecting each other.
“As we celebrate Child Protection Week, remember to respect your peers and protect each other. It really starts with telling your teachers or parents if you see or know of anyone who is abused,” said the MMC.
She further stated that protecting children should begin at home, adding that parents, guardians should create a haven for the children.
The MMC told the pupils on the importance of knowing their right and advising them to tell trusted adults if they feel uncomfortable or violated.
