Need Health Surveillance of a Premise – Let the City Know

Did you know that Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP) are expected by law to conduct inspections at all buildings in order to check any unsatisfactory health conditions?

This is according to the National Act 2003 (Act 61 of 2003) which specifies that environmental health inspections and investigations be undertaken to ensure that corrective and preventative measures are implemented where a condition arises that poses or is likely to pose a hazard or risk to human health.

Thus, the City of Ekurhuleni encourages its residents to contact its offices should they have any concerns with any building in the city that they feel needs to be inspected by an EHP.

“The health of all citizens of the City is our priority and we call on the community to contact us should they have concerns about proper ventilation, lighting, overcrowding, thermal quality as well as any unsatisfactory health conditions.

Our team of EHPs investigate shops, factories, houses, prisons, offices and health facilities,” said the MMC for Health and Social Services Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi. 

The surveillance of premises requires regular monitoring of all premises including private and public buildings to ensure compliance with applicable health requirements. This is done to minimise any harmful environmental health risk.
