REGULAR CLINIC VISITS ARE EXPRESSIONS OF SELF-LOVE
The City of Ekurhuleni encourages residents, as they celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow, to also embrace self-love by adopting a habit of regularly visiting clinics.
“Taking care of your overall health is a love language to self, which starts with an annual or quarterly check-up to help detect conditions before they become serious.
“We have observed that top five health conditions that patients are often diagnosed with are preventable, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cholesterol, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. These conditions, when detected early enough, can be treated effectively,” Head of Department for Health and Community Services Dr Gilbert Motlatla explained.
Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest clinic to get an overall health assessment and should not wait until an illness has advanced.
The services that are offered free of charge at the healthcare facilities in the city include:
- Nutrition, and maternal and child healthcare services, contraceptives and fertility clinic, antenatal care, postnatal care;
- Expanded programme on immunisation, outbreak response and adolescent and youth-friendly service;
- Curative and chronic care, including mental health services; and
- Therapeutic services which are offered by the Gauteng provincial health department: Dental and eye care, rehabilitation and psychosocial therapy.
