RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EX-MINE WORKERS SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS PROGRAMME
The City of Ekurhuleni encourages its residents who were previously miners to take part in the Ex-Mine Workers Social Security Benefits Programme.
The programme is run by the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH), the Medical Bureau for Occupational Diseases (MBOD), and other key stakeholders, and it is in Phase Two.
The aim is to trace, register, and screen ex-mine workers who suffer from occupational diseases such as silicosis and tuberculosis (TB). Many former mineworkers left the industry without receiving the social security benefits and compensation they deserve. In addition, families of deceased ex-mine workers may also be eligible to claim benefits under this programme.
The City of Ekurhuleni is part of Phase Two of the programme that will ensure that more ex-mine workers in Ekurhuleni gain access to their rightful benefits.
The city encourages all ex-mine workers and their families residing in Ekurhuleni to come forward and register at one of the designated venues until Friday, 22 August 2025.
Registrations will be open on weekdays from 08h00 to 16h00.
