ABOUT 416 RESIDENTS GET NEW HOUSING UNITS IN EKURHULENI

The City of Ekurhuleni, in partnership with Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, allocated 416 housing units at John Dube Housing Project in Duduza, and 20 serviced stands in Etwatwa on Tuesday, 01 July 2025.

The handover ceremony was officiated by MMC for Human Settlements Cllr Kgopelo Hollo and MEC for Gauteng Department of Human Settlements Tasneem Motara.

The new houses are fitted with solar panels, inverters and batteries. This will alleviate electricity costs and provide alternative energy source in cases of power supply interruptions.

The John Dube development is one of the city’s mega housing projects, and it is situated between the Springs and Nigel CBDs.

The development consists of approximately 17 000 housing units to be implemented in phases comprising of the following housing mix:

  • 1,500 standalone units;
  • 4,110 walk up units;
  • 2,203 FLISP standalone units;
  • 270 Military Veterans units;
  • 700 rental stock units;
  • 848 affordable bonded units; and
  • 900 site & serviced stands. 

The serviced stands are earmarked for those who do not qualify for either RDPs or home loans, commonly referred to as the missing middle.
