MMC HART ACTS SWIFTLY TO RECONSTRUCT RESIDENTS’ HOUSES DAMAGED BY SINKHOLES IN KATLEHONG

The MMC for City Planning, Ald. Heather Hart is working around the clock to reconstruct the residents’ houses that were damaged by the sinkholes in Katlehong. As part of the Back-to-Basics Service Delivery Friday program, MMC Hart conducted a site visit to monitor the progress of reconstructing the houses that were affected.

Upon assessment, MMC Hart was pleased by the progress made thus far in accelerating the reconstruction of the houses. Brick work and roof installation on the main structure as well as installation of windows and door frames has been completed.

“As the Multi-Party Coalition Government in Ekurhuleni, we are determined to serve our residents. We have set aside sufficient budget to reconstruct the houses that were affected by sinkholes in Katlehong. Construction work started on 1st August, and I am confident that the project will be complete by the end of August 2022” Said MMC Hart.

The sinkholes were first reported to the City of Ekurhuleni for investigation in 2019 and residents have subjected to unsafe living conditions due to the house damages incurred due to the sinkhole.
