EXECUTIVE MAYOR BESTOWES SYMBOLS OF HONOUR TO THE CLASS OF 2024
The Dumi Masilela Theatre in Germiston was a hive of excitement and celebration as the Executive Mayor Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza honoured the top achievers in the 2024 Matric examination.
Xhakaza, invited scores of hard-working matric pupils and educators to give them accolades for their performance in last year’s matric exams. Each year the Executive Mayor hosts the Godfrey Pitje Academic Excellence Awards for this purpose.
The biggest winner of the day was Musawenkosi Buthelezi, an 18-year-old from Zimisele Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, who is the overall number one learner in Gauteng and second best countrywide. Mayor Xhakaza, hailed Musawenkosi for his exceptional results even under very trying circumstance.
“Coming from a humble home and family of eleven, this young man looked beyond his current situation and focused on his aspirations, displaying serious resilience, commitment and dedication,” said the city’s first citizen.
“Youngsters like Musa are role models to many children who buckle under pressure. This young man has demonstrated that no matter how difficult your challenges, through commitment you can succeed.”
The Executive Mayor encouraged this year’s award recipients to continue to be their hard work and dedication ‘because education is the key to all the socio-economic challenges our country faces’.
