EXECUTIVE MAYOR HAILS MATRIC CLASS OF 2024
The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Ald Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has congratulated the class of 2024 for ‘the excellent matric results’.
Reacting to the results released yesterday, Ald Xhakaza congratulated the learners, educators and all stakeholders who made this achievement possible.
“Months of hard work and sleepless nights have finally paid off. Well done to everyone including the parents and families who supported these learners as they navigated through the matric exams last year albeit under very difficult and testing conditions,” said the Mayor.
The country has achieved its best matric results in the past five years with 87.3%. Almost all 75 districts across the country attained over 80% pass rate. Ekurhuleni’s cream of the crop are among the country’s top achievers who were celebrated last night by the Department of Basic Education and Training.
At the same time, 48% of the learners who wrote matric last year got a bachelors pass mark.
“It is very encouraging to witness our youth moving into the next chapter of their lives in such a positive note. We as Ekurhuleni and the country at large need hard working young people to carry the hopes of our nation into a better future for all,” Mayor Xhakaza continued.
“I must also take this opportunity to motivate the learners who did not do well not to lose hope but rather pick up the pieces and give it another try. Education never ends and slipping up in the process should not discourage you from trying again until you get it right. We are proud of you and believe in your capabilities to make the next time around.”
Once again, the Executive Mayor will be hosting the Dr Godfrey Pitje Academic Excellence Awards early next month to celebrate and recognise the city’s top achievers.
