
EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF EKURHULENI TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GREEN & RESILIENT URBANSHIFT AFRICA FORUM 2025 IN NAIROBI
The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, has today, 17 February 2025, arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, for a working visit to participate in the Green & Resilient UrbanShift Africa Forum 2025 hosted by C40 Cities and UrbanShift.
The high-level forum will convene over 250 participants from more than 30 African cities, including mayors, city officials, national government representatives, financiers, business leaders, and civic organisations, to deliberate on sustainable urban resilience, climate change, and infrastructure development in rapidly urbanising African cities.
The Executive Mayor’s participation will include engagement in key mayoral activities designed to strengthen city-level leadership and foster strategic collaboration on climate[1]resilient infrastructure.
The following key events will form part of the Mayor’s schedule:
- C40 Mayors Discussion on Leadership Standards (Monday, 17 February 2025): A closed-door discussion on C40’s strategic direction and its 2025–2030 Business Plan, aimed at enhancing climate action and supporting cities in achieving their sustainability goals.
- Regional Mayoral Convening (Tuesday, 18 February 2025): A strategic roundtable on urban infrastructure resilience and climate finance, co-chaired by Mayor Yvonne Aki[1]Sawyerr of Freetown and Governor Sakaja Johnson of Nairobi, with participation from the African Development Bank.
- CHAMP Roundtable (Wednesday, 19 February 2025): A discussion on best practices for integrating climate strategies at multiple government levels, investment opportunities, and fostering sustainable development partnerships.
