EXECUTIVE MAYOR XHAKAZA ANNOUNCES NEW FINANCE MAYORAL COMMITTEE MEMBER
Dear residents of the City of Ekurhuleni,
In terms of the provisions in Section 60 of the Municipal Structures Act:
“The Executive Mayor must appoint a Mayoral Committee from among the councillors to assist the Executive Mayor to fulfil his mandate.”
In light of recent changes to the Mayoral Committee’s Finance portfolio and after careful consideration and extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Alderman Jongizizwe Dlabathi as the new Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance.
Alderman Dlabathi brings strategic acumen and extensive expertise in local government practice to this role, having served as the Whip of Council since 2016. Furthermore, he currently holds the position of Provincial Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in Gauteng.
As the Provincial Chairperson of SALGA, Ald. Dlabathi has been instrumental in promoting good governance and effective financial management across municipalities in Gauteng. His efforts have focused on ensuring the financial viability of municipalities and supporting the drive for good governance, which are critical for improving cash flow liquidity and overall financial health of local governments
I am confident that his appointment will significantly strengthen our institutional capacity, supporting our efforts to enhance financial sustainability and optimise revenue enhancement in the City. Moreover, this appointment will assist the City in addressing the regression from losing our clean audit opinion from the Auditor-General of South Africa.
We are also pleased to inform the residents of Ekurhuleni that the recruitment process for a new Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) is in its final stages. This timely development aligns perfectly with our preparations for the upcoming audit period, ensuring that we have strong financial leadership in place to support our fiscal responsibilities and enhance our financial management processes.
This strategic addition to our team underscores our commitment to ensuring sound financial management and improving service delivery agility to our community. I wish to congratulate Alderman Dlabathi on his new responsibilities. His proven leadership and dedication to public service make him an invaluable asset to our team, and I have full confidence that he will excel in this critical role.
Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza
Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni
