MAYORAL COMMITTEE ENGAGES WITH EMPD OFFICERS TO ADDRESS CONCERNS

The Mayoral Committee (MayCo) delegation of the City of Ekurhuleni, comprising the MMC for Finance, Ald. Jongizizwe Dlabathi, MMC for Community Safety, Ald. Sizakele Masuku, and MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Ald. Sivuyile Ngodwana today met with representatives of the disgruntled Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers.

The engagement, which included participation by the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) as labour representatives, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in an observer capacity, provided a platform for open dialogue and constructive discussion of the officers’ concerns. Following extensive deliberations, the MayCo delegation committed to thoroughly reviewing the issues raised and providing formal feedback within the next seven days.

“For every right, there is a responsibility. We appreciate the constructive engagement with the EMPD representatives. We intend to give feedback on issues within the next 7 days. The institution will also be tasked to enact consequence management against the individuals who participated in the illegal strike action.” Said MMC Dlabathi

The City appreciates the constructive engagement by all parties and remains committed to resolving the matters raised, ensuring stability in service delivery, and maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of municipal operations. The City has initiated a thorough investigation to identify all individuals involved in the incident and will expedite the process of consequence management to ensure swift accountability.
