OVER R8-MILLION DONATED TO THE RETURNING COE BURSARY FUND
Executive Mayor, Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, is leading by example as he calls for donors in the resumption of the City of Ekurhuleni’s bursary scheme which had become inactive over the passed few years. He pledged R50 000 during the Mayoral Golf Day hosted on Thursday at Glendower Golf Club at Edenvale. The Mayor joined other individuals and businesses who opened their purses pouring into the resurging bursary fund which has collected over R8-million in just a few days.
The donations and pledges have been opened since this week’s two-day Ekurhuleni Investment Conference which was hosted at Emperors Palace as the municipality promoted itself as the best place to live, play and invest in. Mayor Xhakaza’s administration is positioning itself as friends of businesses in a bid to revive healthy relations with companies for greater benefits of the city’s economy and the residents.
‘We cannot improve people’s lives alone as government, we need to need to work side by side with corporates on various fronts and change our municipality for the better. Jobs, skills and opportunities can be provided by both municipality and businesses of all sizes’, Mayor Xhakaza continuously encourages collaborative spirit to be adopted by all. The CoE has officially opened to accepting donations towards the bursary fund. Alongside that groundwork is underway to have a University in Ekurhuleni become a reality with the second symposium to thrash out finer details set to take place early next year.
