SPEAKER, CLLR NTHABISENG TSHIVHENGA OFFICIATES SWEARING IN OF NEW DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE COUNCILLORS

On Tuesday, 28 February 2023, the Speaker of Council in the City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, officiated the swearing of two new Democratic Alliance Councillors.

Cllr. Michael Waters and Cllr. Nina McFarlane took their oath of office before the Speaker in accordance with Rule 11 (1) and (2) of the City of Ekurhuleni Standing Orders By-Law.

These rules make provision for Councillor’s to swear or affirm their faithfulness and obedience to the Republic, the Constitution and Council before the magistrate in a Council meeting; or at any time by arrangement before the Speaker and the Magistrate in the Speaker’s Office.

Cllr. Tshivhenga welcomed the Councillors, who can now participate in the official business of Council and wished them well in serving the people of Ekurhuleni with integrity and upholding their sworn oath.
