VOSLOORUS’ NAGENG PRIMARY ACQUIRES FIRST EVER LIBRARY BUILT FROM YOGHURT TUBS

Executive Mayor, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, has officiated a groundbreaking launch of a library constructed from bricks made from recycled yoghurt tubs.

Nageng Primary School received this state-of-the-art library fully stocked with books and laptops donated by a collaboration of two corporates, Danone and Imperial & Motus Community Trust.

Last year the City of Ekurhuleni endorsed the call by these companies encouraging learners to collect empty yoghurt tubs as part of keeping the environment clean and help build their new learning centre.

Today, on 7 Thursday, September, Mayor Ngodwana praised the learners for heeding the call and becoming planet protectors.

“This magnificent library is a testament to your responsible persistent action as pupils of Nageng. I salute the corporates that have made this lifetime investment for our children because they are living out the proverb that says – it takes a village to raise a child.

“We need to unite as residents, government and business in enriching our children by exposing them to endless opportunities,” said the Executive Mayor.

The new library comes with a full-time librarian hired from Vosloorus by the companies involved. Mayor Ngodwana has applauded such social investment by businesses and extended a call to other businesses to lend a hand in making Ekurhuleni great.
