CITY CONDEMNS VIOLENT ATTACKS ON ENERGY OFFICIALS

The City of Ekurhuleni strongly condemns the emerging behaviour of violent attacks on its Energy technicians when attending to power outages.

In recent times, incidents have been recorded where technicians were held hostage at substations, robbed of their work gear and personal belongings, and brutally beaten by members of the community when they responded to the power supply interruptions resulting from Eskom’s loadshedding or power outages.

The city cautions perpetrators of these despicable acts and the affected communities that violence against technicians will lead to delays in the restoration of power supply. In addition, the city is now compelled to use the services of the EMPD and security contractors, diverted from their normal bylaws enforcement and infrastructure protection, to guard city technicians.
