Mayor Masina Lauds Progress at Bredell Reservoir

Bredell reservoir 1Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina commended the team working at the Bredell Reservoir in Kempton Park.

During his recent visit, Mayor Masina said construction of the reservoir was 98% complete. This is one of the reservoirs being built as part of the City’s security of water supply initiative under the Aqua Leap programme.

“This reservoir will augment the water supply to the whole of Kempton Park, addressing the supply interruptions that have been experienced in the area recently. There are altogether 29 reservoirs that are under construction in Ekurhuleni,” he said.

The Bredell reservoir will have water supply capacity of more than 35 hours. This means it will be able to supply water to the community for more than a full day without supply from the main supplier, Rand Water.

The main supply areas of the reservoir will be Kempton Park CBD, Pomona and Serengeti. This is in addition to the supply from Isando Northridge complex reservoirs.

Mayor Masina said this is a plan that will initially be replicated in other water supply zones of the City. This project costs over R82m and includes construction of the new 22.5 mega litres (Ml) concreate reservoir, pump station, a new above ground chamber, an access paved road and a new guard house and installation of a scour line.

About 140 job opportunities were created by this project.

The Bredell Reservoir will be tested in October to check if there are any water leaks and the whole project is expected to be complete by the end of December 2020.
