PARTS OF SPRINGS WITHOUT POWER DUE TO SUBSTATION FIRE

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Services have put out a fire that broke out at the Springs JVA substation in the early hours of this morning.

Technicians on site have established that there was a technical fault at the switching room which resulted in the fire. The extent of the damage is still being determined as the team continues to sift through the debris.

This incident has left the following areas without power:

  • New Era;
  • Pollak park;
  • Wright Park;
  • Reedville;
  • Dal Fouche;
  • Fulcrum;
  • New Estate Area; and
  • Springs Ext and surroundings.


Customers are urged to treat all electrical networks as live at all times, while work is ongoing. The municipality will update the affected communities on the restoration once it has been determined. It is also quite important that customers understand that the inclement weather is making work rather difficult but the City is doing its best to ensure that power is restored as soon as possible.
