UNPLANNED WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN AREAS OF BENONI
The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to inform customers in the area of Benoni, that it is aware of the prevailing interruption to water supply resulting in low pressure to no water.
This is due to the Rand Water restrictions that are currently continuing. This morning the levels at Rand Water’s Vlakfontein Reservoir were reported to be at 29%. CoE reservoirs supplying the affected areas get their water supply from the RW Vlakfontein reservoir.
The technical teams are currently keeping an eye on the situation to ensure minimal impact of the situation on the community‘s side. In addition, arrangements have been made for water tankers to assist affected communities.
It has not yet been established when the water supply will stabilise.
The affected areas are:
- Chief Albert Luthuli Park
- Cloverdene
- Daveyton
- Mayfield
- Etwatwa
- Rynfield
- Crystal Park
- Benoni Agricultural Holdings
Water tankers have been dispatched and are located as follows:
- Corner Matthewson and Mokoka Streets, Daveyton Ext 2
- Daveyton Clinic, Seiso Street, Daveyton (Sgodi)
- Phillip Moyo Clinic, Etwatwa
- Jerry Moloi Library, Chris Hani Drive, Etwatwa
- Shamase, Etwatwa
Pumps at the KNH pump station fail – Challenges with the pumping stations
Both pumps at the KNH pump station in Northmead have been experiencing challenges that resulted in the following areas being without water:
- Farramere,
- Northmead,
- Goudeberg,
- Brentwood park,
- Morehill,
- Airfield,
- Parts of Rynfield
The restoration time is unknown at this stage and the City of Ekurhuleni is in the process of arranging additional water tankers to be dispatched to these areas.
