WATER SUPPLY IN TSAKANE RESTORED – HIGH-LYING AREAS AFFECTED BY PROTEST

Residents of Tsakane are informed that water supply in the area has been restored to most parts of the township. However, high lying areas are not receiving water yet because technicians are unable to access and start pumping water at the Xhosa reservoir due to protestation.

Following weeks of challenges with Rand Water’s Mapleton system, the City is pleased to inform residents that system seems to have stabilised and pumping water to various parts of the township including the Pholosong Hospital.

“The City understands the frustrations of the residents after having gone for weeks without having water due to this Rand Water problem. However, there is now sufficient supply from the system and all we want to do now is ensure that water flows into the home of the residents,” says Metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini. “This has been a very difficult period for everyone and we want to thank the people for their patience as tough as the situation was.”

“We plead to the residents to allow the teams to do their work so that the water is restored speedily and we bring an end to the anguish they have suffered.”

The high lying areas that are still without water include:

  • Parts of Tsakane proper;
  • Tsakane Extension 12b;
  • Tsakane extension 15, 16, 17, 9, 10 and 22.

The City of Ekurhuleni will continue to work closely with Rand Water to ensure adequate supply to residents.
