Service Delivery Interruptions

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN GERMISTON, WATER TANKERS DEPLOYED

The City of Ekurhuleni has deployed water tankers to areas affected by low water storage level at Russel Road reservoir. The low water storage level at Russel Road reservoir is mainly caused by high water demand, especially during peak times.

The affected areas include the following:

  • Norton Small Farms:
  • Castleview;
  • Dinwiddie; and
  • Albemarle.

Water tankers are located at the following areas:

  • Lennox Road, Albemarle;
  • 29 De Beer Road, Union; and
  • Jacoba Street, Norton Small Farms.

MMC for Water and Sanitation Cllr Thembi Msane has, in response to the high water demand, embarked on the Save Every Drop campaign to encourage consumers to play their part in averting water supply interruptions. This initiative aims to target industries that heavily rely on water in their production processes, encouraging them to participate in the conservation efforts.

During her visits to industries, Cllr Msane indicated some of the city’s plans to improve water supply resilience, including ongoing construction of new  reservoirs.

“The  additional reservoir in the Russell Road area that is being built will help separate feeds: one will primarily serve industrial areas in Germiston while the other will cater to residential areas,” she said.

The City of Ekurhuleni urges all residents and businesses to contribute to conservation of water.
