City Patches Potholes to Promote Road Safety
The city is intensifying its quest to make its road network free of potholes. Recently the city’s roads officials visited Abie Nyalunga street in Wattville, Benoni to patch potholes.
According to the Roads & Stormwater Department’s Head, Sizwe Cele, this is part of the initiative by the city to promote and support the national road safety, which aims to avoid accidents at the time when every vacant hospital bed goes a long way to alleviate the strain put on the healthcare facilities by the coronavirus pandemic.
The visit to Abie Nyalunga street by roads officials followed a routine maintenance check. The city launched a war on potholes at the beginning of 2020, which will continue to accelerate service delivery and tackle road infrastructure issues till March 2021.
The campaign could not have come at the appropriate time amid recent heavy rains in Ekurhuleni, which are prone to cause damage to roads.
The city is working on improving the conditions of many roads that are not in good state. The City also calls upon its residents and businesses to come forward and report the potholes and other road-related issues through our Call Centre on 0860 543 000/ call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za or My CoE App.
