DAWN PARK SUBSTATION UPGRADE WORKS COMPLETED

The City of Ekurhuleni has completed the upgrade of the Dawn Park substation in a move that will stabilize the power supply to Dawn Park, Groeneweide, Klippoortjie, Windmill Park and Villa Liza.

In recent months these areas were constantly marred by power outages due to overloading caused by illegal connections and the by-passing of meter boxes.

In an effort to resolve the problem, effective from 21 April, 2022 until 04 May 2022 the City embarked on a project to upgrade and stabilize the network, which has successfully been achieved.

However, to ensure uninterrupted power supply, the City appeals to residents to continue to use power sparingly to ease the load on the grid.

Meanwhile, whilst the upgrade work has been successfully completed, the City is still faced with the challenges of theft and vandalism of electrical equipment which contribute to unplanned outages and frequent failures of the network. Furthermore, the community is encouraged to report illegal connections because they are the major cause of the strain on the grid.
