Digital Submission of Building Plans in Ekurhuleni

In a bid to move towards digitisation, the City of Ekurhuleni is piloting a paperless submission of building plans.

The pilot is only for the Eastern region, which means it is only applicable to the City Planning offices housed in the customer care centres in Springs, Benoni, Brakpan and Nigel.

Previously property developers or homeowners were required to submit printed (hard) copies of their building plans to the City for approval.

With the pilot exercise, the hard or printed format is no longer needed. While developers or homeowners still need to visit the planning office, they need only take along a soft copy of their plans saved on a memory stick or flash drive.

Other services, like sourcing or verifying of old building plans and rezoning of properties are not part of the pilot exercise. This means owners still need to bring printed building plans when visiting their nearest planning office.

For other regions, you still need to take in printed copies of plans to the respective City Planning office.

When submitting plans, the application must include the owner’s ID and copy of rates and services account. If someone else is submitting on behalf of the owner, a power of attorney must be added to the documents submitted.
