Electricity Theft Affects Us All

The City of Ekurhuleni has embarked on welding distribution boxes to cut down on illegal connections in the City.

This is a move that will hopefully deter the spate of illegal connections which are done on the distribution boxes.

These illegal connections lead to the damaging of infrastructure mainly the transformers, which cost more than R550 000 to replace. Effects of illegal may subject innocent residents to prolonged darkness and the loss of life.

The City is constantly removing illegal connections week in week out with little success. Between July 2020 to February 2021, the City had removed more than 24 000 illegal connections.

The City pleads with residents to play their part in ensuring that the culprits involved in illegal connections are brought to book.

Residents are urged to call the City’s Service Call Centre on 0860 543 000 to report the illegal connections.
