Copper Cable Theft at Gumbi Cemetery Leads to Power Supply Interruption in Mayfield
Cable theft by two suspects at Gumbi cemetery in Daveyton has resulted in power supply interruption in Mayfield on Wednesday morning, 23 June.
Security guards contracted to the city caught the suspects in action, while still busy cutting the 3.1-meter x 185 mm x 3 core CU (11kv) cable valued at over R4 600. The damage to the power supply line will cost an estimated amount of over R9 000 to repairs.
One suspect was caught inside the trench in possession of shovels and hacksaw. He was digging to expose more of the cable.
The suspects are detained at the Daveyton police station and a case of theft of non-ferrous metals has been opened.
