PERSISTENT VANDALISM AND THEFT AT THE DUKATHOLE SUBSTATION DELAYS REPAIR WORK

The City of Ekurhuleni is appalled by persistent vandalism and theft of key components necessary to return damaged Dukathole substation to full functionality. This vandalism and theft are not only crimes, but they also cause inconvenience to many other electricity users and are costly to the city.

Dukathole substation in Germiston is heavily affected by criminal activities ranging from illegal connections, vandalism inside the substation and theft of cables and other electrical components resulting in constant power outages in the area.

The city has begun with the work to effect repairs at the substation, and an order for items necessary to complete the repair work has been placed and delivery is expected before the end of this month. The ordered items are not ordinarily kept in stock due to their low frequency of use.

Repair works are expected to start at the beginning of August 2025, and the city is pleading with customers to refrain from illegal connections and the vandalism of electrical infrastructure as it has a negative impact on the work being done to speedily restore power supply.
