REPAIR WORKS AT SPRINGS MUNIC SUBSTATION NEARING COMPLETION

Work to repair the Springs Munic substation, which was gutted by a fire almost two months ago, is progressing well and the City expects the facility to be fully operational by the end of the year. The fire hit the substation on 20 May leaving various parts of the Springs area without power for days.

The situation forced the City to put in place a temporal power supply structure as a stop gap measure to restore power to affected residents within six days to minimise the impact on affected residents. Since then, technicians have been working tirelessly to effect permanent repairs on the building and to date the facility is 80% towards completion.

At the moment the City’s technicians are preparing the site to install and commission switchgears, and other electrical components that will provide stable power supply to affected customers.

The following areas were affected:

–           Springs CBD and Springs Exts

–           Casseldale, Strubenvale, Grootvlei, Largo

–           Edelweiss, Struisbuilt, Nuffield

–           Selection Park, Selcourt

–           Petersfield &Exts, Geduld &Exts

–           Bakerton, Payneville, Gugulethu and Everest

The anticipated completion period for the repair work is the end of December 2022.
