USE ELECTRICITY SPARINGLY AMID COLD CONDITIONS

The City of Ekurhuleni pleads with all customers to use electricity sparingly during the cold weather conditions which are set to last for the rest of this week.

The cold weather is putting the grid under pressure as people seek ways of keeping themselves warm.

“This situation may result in numerous power outages at a time if it remains unchecked thus resulting in prolonged turnaround times as our teams respond to the various outages,” explains metro spokesman Zweli Dlamini. “So, together we can avoid such an inconvenience by using power sparingly.”

To help mitigate the impact of the strain on the power grid, customers are advised to apply the below energy-saving tips:

  • Turn off unnecessary lights;
  • Use natural light;
  • Take shorter showers;
  • Unplug unused electronics; and
  • Switch off outside lights during the day.

Customers are encouraged to continuously use electricity sparingly and report all illegal connections and bypassed meters to the city’s service delivery call centre on 0860 543 000.
