Joe Slovo Solar High Masts Switched On

The Department of Energy in the City of Ekurhuleni recently installed twelve (12) Solar High Masts poles in Joe Slovo Informal Settlements near Reiger Park.

Each of the solar driven poles has twelve panels that automatically switched on when the sun sets or when darkness kicks in.

According to the department, the target is to install solar high masts in all informal settlements to minimise the use of the grid and saving electricity.  

Nelezwa Mbengo, who voluntarily offered a space in her yard to house one of the poles due to lack of space in the area said “We are happy that finally the lights have been switched on and thugs will have no place to hide at night”.

Each pole can reach a radius of almost hundred meters.
