MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Lesiba Mpya, Hands Over Lifts to Markville Residents
The days of having to carry groceries up the stairs are a thing of the past for the tenants of Markville Flats in 11th Street, Springs CBD. Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Human Settlements Cllr Lesiba Mpya on Monday, 16 November 2020, handed over the newly installed lift at the municipal rental property in Springs.
Johan Enslin, tenant and caretaker, who had advocated for the lift to be fixed when there were delays due to procurement issues, was excited to see the City delivering on its commitment to do everything necessary to get new lift installed.
“On behalf of the tenants of Markville we want to thank the City of Ekurhuleni for the installation of the lift, and the contractors for the excellent job done. I am very proud to be a tenant of Markville and I will ensure the lift is taken care off,” said Enslin.
MMC Mpya thanked the tenants for being patient with the installation. He added that the lift purchase agreement also came with a backup generator that will kick in when power is out or load shedding is implemented.
