Renewal of Driver’s Licences
For those whose driver’s licences expired during lockdown, you have until August 2021 to renew them.
“The August deadline was set to allow as many drivers as possible enough time to renew their licences. This has also allowed us to manage applications as we work with skeleton staff due to the Covid-19 regulations that require social distancing,” explained Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety Cllr Phaladi Mmoko.
You need to book an appointment to renew your licence by visiting https://online.natis.gov.za. Reserve a slot at a testing centre of your choice and make sure you are at the testing centre at least an hour before the allocated time. This will allow you time to complete the necessary paperwork. The renewal process also includes an eye test, but you can visit a private optometrist for the test – if you do remember to take the document received with you.
It is always advisable to renew your driver’s licence before its expiry date otherwise; you will be required to get a temporary licence, which is an additional cost.
