City Calls for Patience from Motorist and Residents Due to Road Closure

President Street in Germiston CBD is closed due to construction taking place and the fact that motorists and residents have been negatively affected has not gone unnoticed by the City.

The road has been closed due to ongoing installation of power lines by Eskom with the aim of improving power supply in Germiston and surrounding areas. Head of Department for Roads and Stormwater Sizwe Cele said, “We gave Eskom a wayleave to work on our infrastructure to put the power supply pipes in which will temporarily affect motorists using President Street. We did this to support the initiative of better and improved power supply that Eskom is responsible for.”

Work was supposed to be done within a year but has been delayed due to COVID-19. The City requests those affected to use alternative roads such as Knox Street, which connects President Street to other main roads in the Germiston CBD, such as Meyer and Victoria streets.

Residents can report potholes and other road-related issues to the Call Centre on 0860 543 000/ call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za or My CoE App.
