City of Ekurhuleni Condemns Vandalism of Property during Community Protest

The City of Ekurhuleni condemns the barbarism displayed during a service delivery protest in Thembisa this morning where a Harambee BRT bus was damaged. The vandalism led to a temporary suspension of services for commuters using Harambee.

The MMC for Transport and Fleet Management Cllr Phelisa Nkunjana condemned the vandalism of municipal property during the community protests, and urges communities to refrain from doing so during service delivery protests.

“Our democracy allows for communities to organise peaceful protests. Protests that escalate to vandalism and destruction of property become unlawful,” MMC Nkunjana said.

The bus service was resumed by midday and commuters who have not used their tickets may still use them.
