Moving the City in Transport Month
October is regarded as Transport Month where campaigns, that seeks to raise awareness of the important role played by the transport fraternity in the economy and the society at large, are held nationally.
During Transport Month, the City of Ekurhuleni through the Transport and Fleet Management Department revisit the realities faced by the transport sector whilst also celebrating their achievements.
The City through the transport department has developed a calendar of events which will focus in the following activities during 2020 Transport Month:
- KTVR Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Initiative
- Jerusalema Dance Challenge
- IPTN Integration (Relay Race)
- EBS/BBC Bus Handover Ceremony
- Prayer for accidents
- Summit for Women in Transport
- COVID 19 Activation
- The KTVR – CSI Initiative
The Transport and Fleet Management Department is partnering with KTVR (Harambee BRT operating company) to handover wheelchairs, crutches, and blankets to the community members living with disabilities at T-SHAD. This day is dedicated to people living with disabilities in the community and showcasing the universal access of Harambee. T-SHAD is responsible for assisting the most vulnerable members of the society in and around Thembisa.

- Jerusalema Dance Challenge
The senior management of the Transport and Fleet Management Department, KTVR, and AMCE will gather to celebrate the world-renowned dance and African heritage as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa during his address of the nation moving to lockdown level one. The fleet of the buses will be on display during the recording of this dance.

- IPTN Integration (Relay Race)
The Transport and Fleet Management Department is showcasing the integration of public transport modes and its efficiency. Three (3) teams will compete over a relay race of relatively equal distance only using public transport.
The teams will depart from different locations, namely (Lakeside Mall in Benoni, Germiston Taxi Rank, and Boksburg Civic Centre). The team to reach Thembisa Hospital first wins.
Teams will (in random order) use a mini-bus taxi, bus, e-hailing, and NMT as the chosen modes of public transport to get to the finishing point.

- Ekurhuleni Bus Services/Brakpan Bus Company Buses Handover Ceremony
The Transport and Fleet Management Department is handing over ten (10) buses to the Brakpan Bus Company (BBC) in a ceremony that will celebrate and solidify relations between the department and the entity. A new fleet of buses will improve services rendered by BBC to the communities living in the eastern region of the city.

The Department of Transport and Fleet Management and EMPD (Licensing Division) are collaborating to curb the scourge of road carnage through awareness and prayer. During Transport Month it is the responsibility of the two (2) departments to encourage road safety through their competencies.
Members of Mayoral Committee (MMCs) will talk to issues relating to their portfolios:

– Comparing accidents statistics between the lockdown period and current
