Routine Checks on All Road Infrustructure Continues
The City continues to clean stormwater drains and channels to keep the road infrastructure in good condition.
Chief Engineer from the Thembisa Depot Kgadi Marumo, who leads the team that does routine checks said, “The northern part of the City used to be well known for flooding and since we have started being proactive and checking the stormwater drains and channels we have seen a reduction in flooding compared to previous years. We urge community members to refrain from dumping debris inside the stormwater drains.”
Sizwe Cele, Head of the Department of Roads and Stormwater said random spot checks were introduced to ensure that the City’s roads were clearly marked, and stormwater channels cleared from any blockages.
“We have teams on the ground all over the City that regularly check the safety and condition of our infrastructure,” he said.
