Springs Taxi Rank Fence Brings Safety for Commuters
The Springs taxi rank, once a haven for criminals, has been transformed into a crime free zone, thanks to the steel fence the City put up as an intervention.
Following sky-rocketing criminal activities within the rank, the local taxi association turned to the City for help. Taxi driver Jeffrey Makara said prior the erection of the fence there were many cases where thieves would steal goods and hide them at the rank.
“Without the fence it was easy for a thief to get to the rank from any direction, but now there is only one entry and exit point. We have noted a drastic reduction in criminal activities,” he said.
His words were echoed by Bhekumuzi Sibeko, who added that the fence has reduced the number of pick-pocketing incidences at the rank.
